Headed north this am and trolled up blues off the cg station. C -Witch gave me a heads up on bunker down south. Ducked in the inlet for fuel and wound up off BL/HC right off the beach in big pods of bunker. 38" bass stripped line and we got him on the deck:) Ten minutes later I heard and felt a "whack" on the bottom of the boat. I initially thought it was the bass bouncing around in the fishbox. At the same second I looked over the side and saw a 6'-8' thresher rubbing the side of the boat eating bunker and whacking the boat with its tail:eek:
VERY COOL. I did not have any heavy tackle on board but that wont happen again. Just one bass today and found myself at the C-Witch estate filleting fish and drinking beer. I dont know how that always happens:D

Nice job on the fish. Guess we all need to gear up now for those threshers.

Are most of you guys used to heading north out of the inlet in search for stripers like I am? I would not normally head south unless I saw heavy bird activity or was called into fish. I think the answer may be that I am used to the fall run when there is no bunker around. In the fall stripers seem to prefer the clam beds and what little structure we have north of the inlet I guess. In the past I have not fished this early in the season.

Scott, its hit and miss lately. North has been on fire the past week or so but as I feared, after the blow we had the past 2 days the bite turned off. We marked NO bait north and trolled only blues. Its nice to have Station guys on the radio and cell sharing reports and thats how I wound up south. I gotta tell you the truth.....there are days when we break the inlet and LITERALLY toss a coin regarding north or south:(
